2025 Pool Season

Dear Members and Friends,

We’re writing with tough news: we will not be able to open Woodley Gardens Pool for Summer 2025.

As you know, Georgetown Hill (the owner of the property containing the pool) expected to begin a construction project, which included a new pool house, during Fall 2024. While they began initial demolition work inside the existing pool house, financing and other delays have prevented them from making more progress to date.

Georgetown Hill initially hoped to offer us portable locker rooms and guard facilities, which would allow us to continue operations despite the construction. We simultaneously needed to gauge community interest in joining the Pool under these circumstances, which resulted in the survey we recently distributed.

Unfortunately, upon further investigation, Georgetown Hill learned that using the portable facilities was more complicated and significantly more expensive than expected. This meant a low likelihood of success (due to uncertainties around permitting and timing) and a high certainty of cost. Georgetown Hill asked the Pool community to bear a considerable portion of these added costs, which would have required us to increase our rates to a level we were not comfortable charging. At the same time, our survey results suggested there was insufficient interest in joining the Pool this summer, even at the current rates.

So where do we go from here? First, we hope everyone is able to find a pool home for the summer. Second, we hope to be in communication with you regarding the future of Woodley Gardens Pool as it becomes clearer to us. Further, for those of you that are part of Woodley Gardens Swim Team, please watch for a separate communication from them regarding plans for a 2025 season. Finally, we’d ask you to remember how we got here – we literally rose from the ashes of the 2019 fire to create what we have today. This community has been through challenging times before, yet it has managed to stick together. We know we can do it again. Keep the faith!
